A Cairns police crackdown on juvenile criminals needs to be backed up in the courts, the State Opposition said today.
State Opposition and LNP Leader John-Paul Langbroek congratulated Cairns police on the blitz which has resulted in 253 charges for 30 serial offenders, but said the officers’ hard work needed to be supported by tougher sentencing.
“It is disturbing to see so many offences being committed in Cairns by these young criminals, with the most alarming incident a spanner and knife attack on an elderly man,” he said. Read More…

THE State Opposition today called on the Bligh Government to offer help to New Zealand in the wake of the Christchurch earthquake.
LNP Shadow Minister for Emergency Services Ted Malone said he hoped State Cabinet this morning would offer every assistance to New Zealand and the people of Christchurch in their time of need.
