Choice for people with disabilities
The LNP’s stance
People with disabilities have a vast range of abilities. To group all people with disabilities into one set of needs, one set of assessment and one system of funding ignores the needs, the wills and the abilities of these people.
The LNP believes in providing individual levels of care and services according the ability and choice of each individual.
For those who require long-term, high-level care, facilities and services must be available.
For those who are willing and able to live independently, there must be a system in place which encourages this choice and makes it as streamlined, simple and efficient as possible.
Reasons for this stance
A disability can be a result of an accident, a disease or a condition from birth. It can be mild or severe. It can stop people from living in the same conditions as other people or it can be something which people learn to live with while pursuing employment, training and everyday pursuits. There is no one-size-fits-all solution and there is no excuse for the Bligh Labor Government to allow a disability to impinge on a person’s ability to interact in the community to the level the person is able or chooses to interact.
