Dick’s refusal to act an international embarrassment
ATTORNEY-General Cameron Dick’s refusal to honour a promise to Alabama authorities in the case of convicted killer Gabe Watson is an international embarrassment, the LNP claimed today.
Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the LNP John-Paul Langbroek said Mr Dick’s failure to forward details of the Watson case to Alabama Attorney-General Troy King was yet another example of Bligh and Labor saying one thing and doing another.
“The people of Queensland are used to Bligh and Labor’s duplicity but when they renege on a promise made to a foreign government, Queensland’s international reputation is damaged,” said Mr Langbroek.
“While the premier is swanning about America duplicating the job of her Labor mate who is supposed to be Queensland’s trade commissioner, Attorney-General Dick is sending a message to the US that the Queensland government’s word can’t be trusted.
“Alabama authorities bent over backwards to help Queensland police when they were investigating Watson but, despite Mr Dick’s promises, when it comes to returning the favour, he has been found seriously wanting”
Mr Langbroek said Mr Dick should act immediately to ensure case documents and evidence relating to the killing of honeymooner Christina Thomas Watson were sent to the appropriate authorities in Alabama.
“Mr Dick should do the job he’s paid to do as attorney-general rather than work on his campaign to be premier,” he said.
“The police minister should also offer his full and immediate cooperation to the Alabama authorities.
“The longer Bligh and Labor procrastinate on this case the longer justice is denied to Tina Watson’s family and the more damage is done to Queensland’s international reputation.”
