Helping those who help others
The LNP’s stance
Community groups are the frontline in helping our community. Whether through helping those at risk of homelessness or those who are homeless; assisting families in financial difficulty or youth struggling with mental health problems; providing a helping hand for people who are socially or geographically isolated – it is often the charities and community groups who can reach out where no-one else can.
A State Government could achieve a greater level of success in strengthening our community by better equipping community organisations and establishing more transparent and certain funding processes.
Reasons for this stance
A charity currently has to approach up to nine different government departments for a single funding source. Some organisations have to employ people merely to deal with government bureaucracy. The Government, instead of helping aid disperse in the community, is often acting as a bureaucratic hurdle.
Community organisations are under pressure from increased costs, wages and the influx of people calling for help. This extra pressure is hitting a sector that is already spread thin in its effort to improve quality of life in our community.
