Lack of school-based police puts kids at risk
Labor’s failure to deliver any new school-based police in the past five years had undermined safety in schools, the LNP said today.
LNP Shadow Minister for Police John-Paul Langbroek said school- based police numbers had been static since 2006.
“Labor has abandoned the school-based policing initiative,” Mr Langbroek said.
“Recent outbreaks of violence in schools across the Gold Coast have again highlighted Labor’s weak approach to tackling violence in schools.”
Mr Langbroek said in 2006 there were 35 school-based police and this figure was the same today despite growth in school populations.
“Labor has been unable to guarantee safety in our schools.
“Everyone is concerned that violence in schools is getting out of hand – teachers, parents and students.
“Senior police believe the growing level of violence in Gold Coast schools needs a higher presence of uniformed police on school grounds.
“I’ll be consulting with local school communities on the best way to revive local school policing.
“The CanDo LNP team will work hard to tackle law and order issues and will revitalise frontline services.”
