Labor puts bureaucracy before break ins

The Bligh Labor government’s persistent police penny pinching was to blame for Queensland criminals getting away with a horrifying four out of five break and enters, the State Opposition said today.

Shadow Minister for Police, Corrective Services & Emergency Services John-Paul Langbroek, who has led the LNP’s fight for greater police numbers, said the tired, 20-year Labor government’s mismanagement of police had reached new lows when Queenslanders no longer felt safe in their homes and businesses.

“It beggars belief how Labor thinks pens and paperwork are more important than police on the beat,” said Mr Langbroek.

“The poor mismanagement of our hardworking police has created a crime crisis with only 18 per cent of unlawful entries with intent being solved across the state.

“It’s typical of this wildly inept 20 year old Labor government which never plans and never delivers.”

Mr Langbroek said alarming reports only 344 out of 3000 recorded unlawful entries on the Gold Coast had been ‘cleared-up’ over eight months was totally unacceptable.

“It begs the question, just how much worse do things have to get until Minister Roberts will start to admit the problem and invest in more police so we can all feel secure?,” said Mr Langbroek.

“Queenslanders have every right to be fed up with this lazy and incompetent Labor government, especially when they plan on cutting another 250 police jobs to pay for the recent police pay rise.

“The Bligh government’s job cuts and massive waste of taxpayer funds will rob even more police from our streets and force them behind desks.

“Since April we have released four law and order policies including a major crime squad for the Gold Coast, tougher bail laws, increased non-parole periods for murder and said we wouldn’t cut police support staff.

“We can’t trust this Labor government and after being in office for 20 odd years, they don’t deserve another go, not this time

“The CanDo LNP will cut waste and revitalise front line services,” said Mr Langbroek.
