Beenleigh police station upgrade – overdue and over budget
THE long promised Beenleigh police station upgrade was years late, and millions of dollars over budget.
LNP Shadow Minister for Police John-Paul Langbroek said the station upgrade was almost five years coming and the budget had blown out by $5.7 million.
“It’s another glaring example of Bligh government malfunction, and mismanagement from retiring Police Minister Neil Roberts,” Mr Langbroek said.
“In 2007/08, the project was set to cost $2.6 million but has now cost taxpayers more than $8.3 million dollars.
“This police station upgrade, in a high crime area, has dragged on to the point where it seemed it was never going to be completed.
“Millions of dollars have been wasted that should have been spent on frontline police.
“The project blew out to $3.45 million in 2010/11 and last June was listed at $7.6 million.
“Minister Roberts needs to explain how the project has blown out again in just six months to $8.3 million.
“Queensland Labor has become synonymous with waste.
“This is a mistake-ridden administration that has no credibility in relation to financial management – and spending taxpayers’ money.
