Privatisation flyers a “secret” despite being sent to everyone

Drafts of the Bligh Labor Government’s privatisation flyers have been deemed a “Cabinet secret”, despite the fact the brochures were sent to every Queensland household at a cost to taxpayers of almost $2 million.

State Opposition and LNP Leader John-Paul Langbroek said the Opposition had lodged a Right to Information application asking for all drafts and materials used to create and edit the Bligh Labor Government’s ‘Myths vs Facts’ flyers.

The RTI application was rejected.

Mr Langbroek said it was “farcical” for the Bligh Labor Government to claim information relating to a brochure sent to every household in Queensland were “secret Cabinet documents”.

“The culture of corruption and cover-up is still alive and well in the Bligh Labor Government,” he said.

“Almost $2 million has been spent on this privatisation propaganda and Queenslanders have a right to see what changes were made and why those changes were made.

“In State Parliament last year, the Opposition exposed the fact these brochures were eerily similar to Labor propaganda that appeared on the ALP website weeks before the taxpayer funded mailout.

“If Ms Bligh wants us to believe the taxpayer funded brochures were prepared by Treasury and not cooked up by Labor HQ despite their similarities, she would immediately release the material the Opposition has sought.”
